Cookies and Analytics
This Website uses cookies and similar technologies. They fall into two groups:
- Strictly necessary. These keep the Website working — remembering your cookie choice, and basic security. They are always on, and cannot be switched off.
- Analytics and advertising. Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads, loaded through Google Tag Manager, which help us understand how the Website is used and measure our advertising. These are off until you accept them.
- Our own measurement. A first-party cookie we set ourselves, which records which pages you read here so that, if you later send us your details, we can see what you were interested in. It is a random identifier, it is used by us alone and shared with nobody, and it is off until you accept it.
When you first arrive, a banner asks you to choose. Until you accept, Google’s tags run in a restricted mode that sets no advertising or analytics cookies and cannot build an advertising profile. If you accept, those cookies are set and that measurement begins. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser, which will bring the banner back on your next visit, or by emailing admin@peacefulmedia.com.
About our own measurement specifically. The identifier is a random value generated in your browser; against it we record the page address, the page title, the referring link and any campaign tags in the link you followed, and when. We do not record your IP address, and we do not build a device fingerprint. We keep this for about thirteen months and then delete it. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we do not set it at all, whatever else you may have chosen, and clearing this Website’s data in your browser deletes it.
When you deliberately send us a form, we keep the page you sent it from and the referring link alongside your message, so that we know how you found us. That happens whether or not you accepted cookies, because it is part of the enquiry you chose to send — but without your acceptance there is no identifier and nothing from any earlier visit.
Two further things worth naming plainly. Our website analyzer tool sends the web address you type into it to Automattic’s screenshot service in order to show you a preview of that page; and our hosting provider, Vercel, collects aggregate, cookieless page-performance data that does not identify you. Neither is used for advertising.
We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because no common standard for them exists. We do honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals — as an opt-out of sharing, as described in section 10, and as a complete opt-out of our own measurement described above.
Your California Privacy Rights
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you specific rights over your personal information. You may request to know what we have collected about you, request that we delete it, request that we correct it, and opt out of its sale or sharing. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Sale and sharing. We do not sell your personal information for money. However, when you accept advertising cookies, the Google Ads tags on this Website may transmit identifiers to Google in a way that California law treats as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising. Declining the cookie banner — or enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser — opts you out of that sharing. Because we do not maintain user accounts, that choice is stored in your browser rather than against a profile.
Categories. In the past twelve months we have collected identifiers (such as name, email address and IP address), internet activity (such as pages viewed), and any information you volunteer in a form. We collect this to reply to enquiries, to provide the services you ask for, and — with your consent — to measure advertising. We do not knowingly collect the personal information of anyone under eighteen, and we do not sell or share the personal information of minors.
How to exercise these rights. Email admin@peacefulmedia.com with your request. We will verify it by replying to the email address we hold and asking you to confirm details we already have on file, and we will respond within the time the law allows. You may use an authorised agent, in which case we will ask for proof of their authority.
