Heart of the Customer (HoC) had been experiencing a downtrend in organic search traffic for more than six months, since September 2022, when it began working with Peaceful Media.
The Challenge
The reason for the downtrend was in two parts. 1) HoC had redesigned its website, but the developer had paid mind to technical SEO best practices when designing the new site structure, and 2) existing and new content was written without SEO best practices and data-driven decision making. By the time Peaceful Media started implementing the SEO solutions below, monthly organic search traffic had dropped to 1.1k sessions.
The Plan
Technical SEO changes
- Tag Pages: HoC had it’s WordPress “tag” pages indexed for many years as part of it’s sitemap, though otherwise not readily findable on it’s site. With the site redesign, these pages had not been designed for, creating an issue with how the tag pages were displayed.
- 404 pages: With a growing number of page no longer published, several pages were linked to on other web pages. These were removed.
- 219 Orphaned pages across site: old blogs that didn’t receive organic traffic were set to draft to be consolidated.
Keyword Research & content strategy development
- Optimize Existing Content: 14 existing blogs re-written
- Write new blogs with SEO focus
- Guidance provided to write new blogs by HoC staff.
The Result
Within 4 months of implementing key technical SEO changes, organic search traffic increased 100% in October 2023.
