But I’m just not a tech person.
Captain Unadaptable
Yes, I’ve heard that one before.
And a bunch of variations like…
“But I don’t do tech stuff.”
“You don’t understand. Computers hate me.”
“When I touch electric things they break.”
“I never learned how to type.”
“I can’t learn tech, it’s too hard.”
If those sound all too familiar to your personal story, it’s my job to ask you questions. (You can disregard my questions if you’re completely satisfied with the results you’re getting from your story.)
Question #1: Is that really true though? It seems odd to me that you can’t learn something, so let me just explore this a bit. Does it physically hurt you when you try to learn things? Stress and anxiety is one thing, but do you actually get wounded somehow? If so, that’s terrible and I’m sorry for your condition.
Question #2: How often do you limit yourself with that belief? I would imagine that if you cannot learn anything ever about technology then you’re probably constantly repeating yourself like “But I’m not a tech person and I can’t learn nothing about it. But I’m not a tech person and I can’t learn nothing about it. But I’m not a…” I mean, tech is everywhere today! You must be very bothered by this. That sucks.
Question #3: What’s it costing you? This one’s a tough one to answer definitively, I know. Who really knows what someone could do with the information, stories, and advice you’d be posting on your website if you weren’t getting wounded by tech and tech education.
Don’t take for granted the beautiful mind you’ve been given. You can adapt to anything. You can learn anything. But not if you’ve decided that you won’t.
Ok, I’m obviously being glib. But let me get really serious with you…
Someone is in fact looking for your help and advice. People are in fact hurting very badly right now, hunting through forums and blogs for answers to a critical pain point in their lives. You think I’m exaggerating? I’m not. I can tell you plenty of stories of our clients’ blog posts or Facebook videos or books steering an extremely distressed audience member away from taking his or her own life.
And you’re going to balk at tech and tell yourself that you can’t learn it — ever ever ever? Come on now. Don’t take for granted the beautiful mind you’ve been given. You can adapt to anything. You can learn anything. But not if you’ve decided that you won’t.
Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right.

Watch the video at the top of this post. It’s long, I know. But I think it’s really important for you if you’re struggling with this conditioned thinking.
I can’t have people like you NOT going online if you have a desire to do so. Not if your story or teachings or ideas can inspire someone to be a better version of him/herself.
